The Drum...the drum....the drum

Well,

It's been awhile since I posted lets see...

I met a few people from Florida within the past week...thats when I feel like i hit my stride here. That night was pretty ridiculous...met some native chicago peeps and now they are like my real good friends here, but we went bar hopping that night *from what I can remember* haha can't really go into too much detail from that but I always wonder how I found my way home. I remember I was walking back from IHOP at 4 in the morning and some guy came up to me and grabbed my arm and said he was cold...I was like whatevs. I remember coming upon Roscoes and was like ok I know where I am at. A night to remember for sure.

The next day i met everyone back in downtown (hangover or not) and we went to the modern wing which was the new addition to the art institute museum. Ummm it was cool but SO MANY PEOPLE, I felt like i was in the WALMART of museums cause you could barely move in the exhibits....will def have to go back but BUT i did see a jackson pollock and I am not really a fan but it was incredible to finally see one of those in person. Ill post a pic of it.

After that museum visit we walked around millenium park and up and down michigan avenue which is the shopping district...o how I wanted to shop. But Justin and I went to this really cool place to eat. It's called foodlife. They have like 10 restaurants in the area. They give you a plastic card (almost like a credit card) and you get anything you want and just charge it to that card then at the end after you are done you pay....so kind of a cool concept. Not much happened after that, Justin and I walked around and my feet had HUGE blisters on them and I just couldn't walk anymore.

The next day I met back up with them in downtown and we went to the MCA (museum of contemporary art). I do have to say this was my favorite thus far. I love contemporary art and how interactive it is. Like for example, when you walk in there is this hall to the right. ITS BRIGHT YELLOW. As you walk down the hall, you lose color and everyone basically turns black and white. I felt like i was in pleasantville or the wizard of oz it was AMAZING. A lot of the other stuff was really cool in that museum.

That night we went to NAVY PIER....not really a fan, reminded me of the beach so I won't really talk about that too much.

After all that fun I was really considering going home cause this job hunt was just getting unbearable, but things started to lift up. I now have friends to hang out with here...I got my ticket to see Patrick Wolf on June 15th (totally excited he is like on my top 5 to see in concert). And to make this week even better I got a job.

Yes you heard it, I got a job. This job is at this place called BEATNIKS...its like this thrift shop with vintage clothing, undies, theater makeup, costumes, wigs, jewelry, lets just say its super GAY, but its great cause its right in boystown and ill get to really be around the area especially during PRIDE, its going to be ridiculous.

So lastnight I celebrated for this recent employment. Mike and I went out to eat (a friend I met while I was here) and then we went to Juana's (another girl I met while I have been here). We pregammed then we went to this 80's place but it totally was a bust. So we all decided to go to this really cool place up near where I live called club BERLIN. AHHH i wish we had a club like this back at home...totally my scene. Great music (Bjork, great electronica) great drinks, cool people and its open till 4AM!!!!! Clubs in SC stay open till like 2 haha. I danced my ass off (for lack of a better word). It was a great night.

so Now I am just relaxing today. I am updating my music, writing this blog, I may go over to the girls place later to learn how to embroider and make things. I start work tomorrow at noon so I better cherish this free time while i can....actually I am over having free time. Sorry for the long post but it was indeed time for an update. Until then, this is Ian signing out.

Blisters

So I have literally walked like 25 miles since I have been here. I went to an interview in downtown today and took a long walk back to the apt, like 7 miles. But let me back track....

Yesterday was a grand adventure. George (Jordan's roommate) took me under his wing for a day out into town. He took me to lunch first at this place called the Grande Lux Cafe. You go in and immediately I felt like I was in like that restaurant/bar that you see in the Shining...it was beautiful. We went up on these escalators into this circular room that was beautiful. Cophers lined the ceilings. I had a chicken pot pie which was the best pot pie I have ever had. Also I had this drink called a Blood Orange Mojito (mmm mmm good). George and I really got to know each other and it was pretty cool. Then he took me around downtown and showed me the areas like The Gold Coast (which had lamborghini dealerships and just high fashion written all over the area). The trek back to the apt was strenuous but really fun.

When I got back I laid down, began reading a book called WORLD WAR Z. It is an oral history of the zombie war....its wild, makes me think its true. Watched Idol (Hope adam wins). Then George told me to come up to the roof with him and watch the sun set on top of our building. It was cool. Since the sun sets where the two major airports of chicago are, there is constant air traffic, it was a breathtaking site. Also we boy watched HAHA. Then around 9 the power went out. It was funny, but it brought the whole apt together. Everyone really likes me. We grilled out had bratwurst and corn. HAHA and i mixed all differnet kinds of alcohol in me which wasnt good. I had wine, beer, and vodka HAHA i had the hangover from hell the next morning. All in all this was the best day I have had since I have been here.

Now I sit here, I have an interview with urban outfitters in the morning tomorrow. I also had my 2nd interview with Buffalo exhange today, I think I may land a position there. Lets cross my fingers. I gots blisters on my feets!!!!!

Walking, Walking, and more Walking

SO, I walked alot yesterday. I would have to say a total of 6 miles. It all began with me going to the Lincoln Park zoo to turn in an application. The Zoo is free there which is awesome. So I went on the website to make sure the administration office was open so I could submit my application and I could not find anywhere on there that it was closed. So I began my 1.8 mile trek down to the zoo. WHAT a beautiful walk!!!!

I arrived in no time and guess what, the office was closed. That was a downer but I am going back today. I walked around the zoo, saw polar bears, zebra, lions, giraffes, everything that you could think of. SO MUCH FUN!!! I think I watched the polar bear swim for about 10 minutes. Anyway met a friend there and we ended up walking around DePaul University and sat up on a rooftop of a building. IT was so nice.

Later I got a call from Ken and met him down at wrigley field and we had dinner. Then went to this place that had 1 dollar well drinks, totally fun. Then around 9 we met up with his friend at Mary's Attic and participated in Maryoke!!! Man these people can sing, I am glad I didn't try.

What a fun day yesterday was!!!! I am going to do alot of walking today as well.

Eh

The interview was alright...I don't know what to make of it yet. I just really want a JOB, but I must be patient. I went and met someone lastnight, it was fun, we went to this bar called Simon's. It was a hole in the wall bar with a dancing fish on the outside. Also there were swedish flags on display, can someone say SWEDISH FISH. Anyway, had 3 whiskey and cokes and it became a good time.

Today its beautiful...again I just wish I had people to hang out with, its only day 3 but it feels like forever hahah but I am enjoying myself.

Wet, Wet, and more Wet!!!!

So I woke up today in hopes to go job hunting, well it has been basically raining all day. I mean I think this is the first time I have witnessed rain for more than 5 hours, back in South Carolina that hasn't happened in a while. I sat around all day, well, I read more and George gave me my own set of keys so I can come and go as I please. That made me feel like an official resident of this place. Sooooooooo after eating some salmon and really good mashed potatoes I was like heck with this I am going to walk around in the rain, luckily this place has like 5 umbrellas. SO I walked up and down halsted and clark looking for help wanted signs and just admiring all the people. I never knew rain could look so cool when there are a ton of buildings around.

On my way back to the apartment this store caught my eye, Buffalo Clothing. I walked inside and its like this hip clothing store/thrift store. They buy clothes from you and sell them themselves and funny thing about it was that they were hiring. So I walked in and inquired and I am perfect for the availability they want so, you guessed it, I have an interview tomorrow at 330. This has made me feel better, hopefully I get the job and I get decent hours cause the hours of the place would be PERFECT for me. So I am now sitting watching United States of Tara and relaxing. Here's to another day!!!
